Act I - third scene

Outside, snow-covered Nevski Prospect, and a very elegant Art Noveau building. Inside, a large bookcase. And, on the first floor, an elegant café. As soon as it is poured into the cup, the infusion forcefully releases its most characteristic notes. Black tea, dense and intense. A raw and biting floral note. And that unmistakable dry and smoky aftertaste given by the bonfires of the caravanserai, which kept the tea leaves dry on the endless journey through Siberia. The mint leaves give a pleasant touch of freshness to the boiling water. A teaspoon of raspberry compote softens, without altering it, the bitter aftertaste of leather and birch. We savor it slowly, the lost gaze projected out of the large window, towards the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan and beyond. The Russian tea ritual today gave us an unexpected journey to distant countries, full of mystery and charm.
